David Almanza’s farm is located just outside the village of Amaybamba. The path to his farm ascends from the road along a small irrigation stream until reaching the highest point of his Chacra, 200 meters above. At this elevated point, David grows his best crops, including this lot of Geisha varieties.

Being so close to the town of Amaybamba, David often hosts visitors from the Incahuasi community, showing them coffee farming methods and inviting them to participate in the Inca work tradition of Ayni. He is an active and sociable member of the community, raising awareness about the remote Incahuasi Valley.

Geisha Inka are the historical varieties of Geisha, or Ethiopian heirloom, that have been growing in the district for decades. They were largely neglected due to their low yield, but now, with experienced quality management, David is planting more of these wonderful varieties at even higher altitudes, producing excellent results and benefiting the community.

The members of each committee in the Incahuasi Coop share the same Inca ancestry and culture. Traditionally, the Incas shared the working processes within the community, and today, the members of the Incahuasi Coop still employ the methods of Minka—to share work on community infrastructure—and Ayni—to collaborate among farmers on a daily basis. Through this collaboration, practices are refined among each farmer and perfected in the Inca tradition.
